Mission

At The Girls Middle School, we nurture girls at a pivotal moment in their lives, creating an inclusive atmosphere that promotes academic growth. A GMS student discovers her strengths and learns to express her voice while valuing the contributions of others.

The Position

We are seeking a dedicated middle school educator to instruct two sections of 8th grade humanities, collaborate closely with the 8th grade team and humanities department, guide approximately ten middle school students, and engage in various activities that enhance GMS's innovative programming.

Humanities at The Girls Middle School

The Humanities Department integrates language arts with social sciences, fostering students' awareness of themselves, their communities, and the broader world. We prepare our students to become effective communicators, critical thinkers, and positive contributors to society. The curriculum encourages students to think critically and connect with a diverse range of texts and disciplines, nurturing creativity and expression.

At GMS, Humanities is a collaborative effort, with two teachers working closely on curriculum development, content delivery, and assessment. Each educator is responsible for their sections, yet all students in the grade engage with the same texts, projects, and expectations, ensuring a cohesive learning experience.

In 8th grade, students explore history, literature, and culture through the lens of justice. Building on prior knowledge, the curriculum examines contemporary life and literature, focusing on identity in its many forms. Students engage with a variety of primary sources and literature, including significant works that encourage critical analysis and personal reflection.
