At The Girls Middle School, we are committed to nurturing girls during a significant period in their lives. We strive to create an inclusive atmosphere that promotes academic growth. A GMS student discovers her strengths and learns to express her voice while valuing the contributions of others.

The Position

We are in search of a dedicated middle school educator to instruct science for four sections of 6th graders. This role involves close collaboration with the 6th-grade team and science department, serving as an advisor to approximately ten middle school students, and engaging in various activities that enhance GMS's innovative and dynamic programming.

At the heart of GMS is our exceptional faculty. Each teacher possesses a passion for working with middle school girls and recognizes the intrinsic value of the middle school experience. Our educators are attentive, supportive, and committed to every student in the school. GMS teachers are specialists in middle school education and subject matter experts, bringing enthusiasm to their roles and sharing it with students. Whether a GMS student is interested in physics, programming, sculpture, or musical theatre, there is a mentor available to help them pursue their passions.

Science at The Girls Middle School

The GMS science curriculum emphasizes the development of scientific skills throughout students' three years, exploring the fundamental concepts that shape earth, life, and physical sciences. Building skills in observation, measurement, and scientific inquiry is central to our curriculum.

The sixth-grade curriculum focuses on earth science, inviting students to investigate the Earth's geosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere. This position offers the chance to collaborate closely with the Assistant Head of School and Science Department to revitalize a field studies program, which has historically been an integral part of the 6th-grade experience.

Science is a natural process of observing phenomena, questioning how the world operates, and seeking answers to understand our surroundings. Every student at The Girls Middle School embodies the role of a scientist, learning and applying the skills that professional scientists utilize in their daily work. Science is not merely a collection of facts; it is a means of comprehending the world around us. Students engage in numerous hands-on explorations, inquiries, and projects as they delve into the natural world.
