JOB OVERVIEW

This role is essential to the success of Essen Bakery by supporting management in executing daily operations during assigned shifts while guiding the team and handling designated administrative responsibilities. The Cafe Operations Supervisor is tasked with deploying personnel and assigning duties to ensure that team members deliver an exceptional experience for our esteemed customers. This position requires staying informed about all new offerings, promotions, events, and updates, and effectively communicating these to the team at the start and/or conclusion of each shift. The Cafe Operations Supervisor serves as a key representative for customer service, addressing any inquiries or concerns that cannot be resolved by other team members or management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core functions of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Exemplifies integrity, honesty, and knowledge that foster the culture, values, and mission of Essen Bakery. Maintains composure during busy periods or unexpected events to uphold operational standards and set a positive example for other team members.
  • Proactively assesses customer and store needs by continually observing the environment and patrons for cues. Shares relevant information with the team or management to ensure a welcoming atmosphere throughout each shift.
  • Organizes staff schedules based on anticipated business levels while ensuring all roles are filled as necessary and labor cost targets are achieved.
  • Assists in the recruitment and training of new team members by positively reinforcing successful performance and providing respectful and constructive coaching as needed. Offers feedback to management regarding staff performance.
  • Fosters a positive workplace by identifying shifts in staff morale and performance and communicating these observations to the assistant manager or ownership.
  • Creates a supportive learning environment by delivering clear, specific, timely, and respectful coaching and feedback to team members during shifts to ensure operational excellence and enhance performance.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to all patrons by maintaining a helpful demeanor and connecting with customers. Identifies and addresses customer needs.
  • Builds strong relationships with team members by understanding and addressing their individual motivations, needs, and concerns.
  • During shifts, directs team members to various workstations to minimize delays and maintain service efficiency. Consistently promotes a culture of speed in all tasks.
  • Ensures that team members meet operational cleanliness and service standards.
  • Oversees store operations during scheduled shifts. Organizes, assigns, and monitors all opening and closing responsibilities of the team.
  • Adheres to operational policies and procedures, including cash handling and safety protocols, to ensure the safety of all staff during each shift.
  • Conducts bank runs as needed to maintain appropriate cash levels at each location.
  • Opens and closes the cafe as required.
  • Complies with all policies regarding waste and employee purchases, ensuring that staff follow proper practices.
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Delivers high-quality beverages consistently for all customers by following all recipe and presentation standards. Adheres to health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Recognizes and celebrates individual and team achievements using existing organizational tools and collaborates with management to discover new, innovative, and effective recognition methods.
  • Utilizes operational tools to achieve excellence during shifts.
  • Participates in all scheduled team and management meetings, contributing suggestions for improvement.
  • Assists fellow employees as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong customer service orientation and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a customer service role within a fast-paced restaurant, coffee shop, or bakery.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and Canva, with experience in creating documents and marketing materials being a plus.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership capabilities with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.
COMPENSATION
  • $18-$20 per hour plus tips.
  • Complimentary primary healthcare benefits.
  • Paid Time Off, accruing 3 hours per payroll, redeemable after 28 weeks.
  • Potential for bonuses.
