Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) engineer to support the design and optimization of more capable and cost-effective nuclear reactors for the US nuclear navy. As a key member of our multi-discipline reactor design team, you will develop and evaluate new design concepts using state-of-the-art CFD methods, software, and computer systems.

Responsibilities
  • Development and evaluation of new design concepts using CFD methods, software, and computer systems
  • Qualification of analytical modeling methods and design of supplemental hydraulic tests where needed
  • Leadership and development of more junior CFD engineers
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified; or
  • Qualified SIT and 3 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • Currently or previously CRE qualified; or
  • 6 years as SRE; or
  • SRE qualified and 9 years of experience
Preferred Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge with respect to all aspects of the CFD analysis process, including CAD geometry model preparation, CFD mesh generation, and advanced post-processing techniques
  • Experience with state-of-the-art turbulence models

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.

Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.
