Supportive Classroom Educator for Children with Special Needs

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Supportive Classroom Educator to join our team. As a key member of our educational staff, you will provide individualized support to children with special needs, ensuring their participation in classroom activities and promoting a nurturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to assigned children, facilitating their engagement in classroom activities.
- Implement teaching strategies aligned with the CLASS philosophy, emphasizing emotional support, classroom organization, and instructional support.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to maintain children's engagement during large group activities.
- Purposefully interact with children, extending play and learning opportunities.
- Assist in assessments and documentation for assigned children, ensuring accurate records.
- Create a warm, safe, and positive environment, utilizing Conscious Discipline techniques and adhering to our discipline policy.
- Develop meaningful relationships with each child, promoting their social and emotional development.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards (e.g., NAEYC, APPLE, ECS, DCF, and Head Start).
- Follow established procedures for medical and dental emergencies, short-term child exclusions, and medication administration.
- Ensure safe practices to prevent injuries to children and staff.
- Participate in center maintenance, adhering to sanitation and hygiene protocols.
- Establish effective communication with families, fostering a comfortable environment for parents to discuss their children's progress.
- Inform parents about their children's progress through various means, including parent notes, portfolios, and conferences.
- Eat with children, promoting healthy eating habits and conversation.
- Communicate regularly with staff to enhance children's and families' experiences, including attending staff meetings, trainings, and sharing information.
- Adhere to supervisor instructions and assignments.
- Collaborate with the in-class Coach and Program Support Specialists to meet assigned children's needs.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) required.
- An associate degree in child development, special education, early childhood education, or a related field, along with experience working with children with special needs, is highly preferred.
