Job Title: Special Needs Assistant

At Episcopal Children's Services, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for children with special needs. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Assistant to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Special Needs Assistant will provide individualized support to children with special needs, helping them participate in classroom activities and promoting their social and emotional development. This role requires a strong understanding of child growth and development, as well as the ability to provide a supportive and caring environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to children with special needs, helping them participate in classroom activities.
  • Use teaching strategies that promote emotional support, classroom organization, and instructional support.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in keeping children engaged during large group activities.
  • Purposefully interact with children, extending play and learning opportunities.
  • Assist in assessments and collection of documentation for assigned children.
  • Provide a warm, nurturing, and positive environment, using Conscious Discipline positive guidance techniques and upholding ECS discipline policies.
  • Develop nurturing relationships with each child, encouraging their social and emotional development.
  • Maintain all federal, state, local, and accreditation standards, including those set forth by NAEYC, APPLE, ECS, DCF, and Head Start.
  • Follow policies and procedures regarding medical and dental emergencies, short-term exclusion of children, and the administration, handling, and storing of medication.
  • Ensure safe practices are followed to prevent injuries to children or staff.
  • Maintain sanitation and hygiene procedures and participate in the maintenance of the center.
  • Provide and encourage effective communication and relationships with families, ensuring parents feel comfortable discussing their children's progress.
  • Inform parents about their children's progress formally and informally, including parent notes, portfolios, or parent conferences.
  • Eat with children, promoting proper eating habits and conversation.
  • Communicate regularly with other staff to better serve children and families, including attending staff meetings, trainings, and sharing information.
  • Follow directions and assignments as given by the supervisor.
  • Work collaboratively and attentively with the in-class Coach and Program Support Specialists to meet the needs of assigned children.
  • Maintain appropriate records and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) required.
  • An associate degree in child development, special education, early childhood education, or a related field and experience working with children with special needs highly preferred.
Salary:

$23.95 per hour
