Gainesville Empowerment Zone Family Learning Center Assistant Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Teacher to join our team at the Gainesville Empowerment Zone Family Learning Center. As an Assistant Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the center and providing a safe, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with daily classroom operations, working closely with the Team Leader to plan and implement school readiness activities for children.
- Closely supervise and maintain awareness at all times of the children assigned as primary responsibility.
- Provide and maintain a safe environment to prevent injuries to staff and children, keeping the classroom and outdoor learning environment clean and free of dangerous equipment and debris.
- Display a passionate and positive attitude that creates a warm, nurturing environment that fosters early learning and child development.
- Assist in the physical maintenance and care of the center facility, such as sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and garbage disposal.
- Meet all current GEZFLC, state, and local child care employee regulations, including First Aid and CPR.
- Complete a minimum of 20 clock hours of professional development (age group specific) per year.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and experience working with children birth - five years old.
- Accepted: Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and experience working with children birth - five years old.
- Accepted Infant/Toddler: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential; State Equivalency.
The Assistant Teacher will work in a center environment with flexible work hours, occasional evening/weekend/overtime. The position requires the ability to work outside for a minimum of one hour per day in varying weather conditions. Lunch will vary depending on the needs of the center.
Physical RequirementsThe Assistant Teacher must be physically able to perform tasks, including but not limited to, bending, lifting, and moving a minimum of 25 pounds.
Essential Functions- Adhere to and practice GEZFLC standards within the code of conduct policy.
- Assist with daily classroom operations, working closely with the Team Leader to plan and implement school readiness activities for children.
- Closely supervise and maintain awareness at all times of the children assigned as primary responsibility.
- Provide and maintain a safe environment to prevent injuries to staff and children, keeping the classroom and outdoor learning environment clean and free of dangerous equipment and debris.
- Display a passionate and positive attitude that creates a warm, nurturing environment that fosters early learning and child development.
- During evacuations or drills, assume the role as indicated in established emergency procedures.
- Assist in the physical maintenance and care of the center facility, such as sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and garbage disposal.
- Maintain a professional attitude with open communication and support a positive environment in the center to promote the social, emotional, and mental wellness of staff, children, and families.
- Communicate respectfully and maintain standards of confidentiality with all children, families, staff, and community representatives.
- Advocate for children and families.
- Attend parent meetings as required.
- Assist the Team Leader with keeping daily Attendance Records.
- Attend and participate in pre-service, in-service, and other trainings as requested/approved by the supervisor.
- Attend training according to the Professional Development Plan.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and other required meetings.
