Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is in search of a dedicated professional to fulfill the role of Healthcare Compliance Officer within the Office of Quality Assurance and Healthcare Compliance. This position is pivotal in ensuring adherence to regulatory mandates and widely accepted standards of care across various programs, including Behavioral Health, Facilities, Substance Abuse, and Developmental Disabilities. The Healthcare Compliance Officer will play a crucial role in fostering ethical practices, procedures, and systems aimed at preventing, identifying, and rectifying quality of care challenges in a timely and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising the performance of healthcare compliance specialists by establishing clear expectations and providing ongoing constructive feedback.
  • Coordinating regular assessments to confirm that the agency meets all regulatory, legal, accreditation, certification, policy, and procedural obligations.
  • Designing, executing, and reviewing audit strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Documenting and tracking corrective action initiatives.
  • Leading investigations related to compliance at the system level.
  • Managing the oversight of complaints and hotline operations.

Essential Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of accreditation, legal, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience in developing audit strategies that align with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage compliance in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong skills in collecting, analyzing, documenting, interpreting, and presenting complex data.
  • Experience in formulating policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with a diverse workforce at all levels.

Additional Considerations

  • Background in business, healthcare, public administration, or related clinical fields, or a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Certification in CPHQ and/or training in relevant healthcare, clinical, and quality management practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
