Healthcare Benefits Coordinator

The Patient Advocate plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with their Medical Assistance Applications, ensuring that those who may qualify for benefits under the MA Program or other entitlement programs receive the necessary support. This position involves gathering all essential documentation required by the County Assistance Office to assess eligibility.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate the completion of Medical Assistance Applications, assess for disability, and assist in filling out the hospital charity care form with the patient or their representative.
- Maintain daily updates in the computer system to track application progress.
- Generate daily production reports related to Medical Assistance.
- Ensure that all necessary medical forms are submitted to the appropriate physician within 24 hours of application completion.
- Collect and secure all required releases, waivers, and questionnaires.
- Provide each patient with a checklist of pending documents and conduct daily follow-ups while the patient is in-house, if applicable.
- Fax all necessary verifications within the first 24-48 hours of completing the application.
- Prepare applications for submission to the County Assistance Office.
- Address discharge files promptly to ensure timely processing.
- Follow up with the County Assistance Office until a determination is reached.
- Assist with Marketplace applications where applicable.
- Report any concerns regarding non-cooperative patients to management.
- Ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regarding the use and disclosure of patients' protected health information (PHI).
- Must be able to work onsite at client locations.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in the healthcare sector is necessary.
- Experience in patient-facing roles is preferred.
- Strong communication skills for effective one-on-one interactions with patients.
- Ability to work independently while being detail-oriented.
- Excellent investigatory and research skills.
- Proficiency in using the internet and learning new databases.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capability to multitask efficiently.
- High level of organizational skills.
- Adherence to client policies and protocols while maintaining professionalism.
- Ability to meet monthly productivity targets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook is required.
- Bilingual in Spanish (both spoken and written) is a plus.
- Physical Demands: The role requires mobility within the work area, light lifting, sitting, performing manual tasks, and operating office equipment.
- Mental Demands: The employee must follow directions, collaborate effectively, and manage stress.
- Work Environment: The typical noise level in the work environment is minimal.
