Job Description:

The Transportation Specialist is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of individuals to and from the day habilitation facility, as well as to offsite activities and appointments. This includes ensuring the comfort and safety of individuals during transit, maintaining the vehicle, and adhering to all company policies and traffic regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pick up individuals from their homes and transport them to the day habilitation facility.
  • Drop off individuals at their homes after their time at the facility has concluded.
  • Assist individuals with boarding and exiting the vehicle as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers during transit.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized vehicle.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance issues.
  • Run errands or transport individuals to offsite activities and appointments as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, and any incidents.
  • Adhere to all company policies, traffic laws, and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, guardians, and staff members.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances during transit.
  • Participate in required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • All other duties as requested or assigned.
Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license held for a minimum of 5 years is required.
  • Clean driving record with no points or violations in the last five (5) years is required.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and motor vehicle check.
  • Excellent driving skills and knowledge of local roads and traffic patterns preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Reliable and punctual with excellent time management skills.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift and assist individuals as needed (up to 50 lbs).
  • Sitting for extended periods while driving.
  • Frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle.
  • Ability to operate vehicle controls and perform visual checks.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions during transit.
  • Manage potential behavioral issues or medical emergencies while maintaining vehicle safety.
Additional Requirements:
  • Support and maintain all corporate policies, procedures, and quality and confidentiality standards.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed to meet the needs of the organization.
Training and Development:

The Transportation Specialist must successfully complete all mandatory DDD trainings, including Overview of Developmental Disabilities, Abuse and Neglect, CPR & First Aid, Agency New Hire Orientation, Agency's approved training on handling Life-Threatening Emergencies/Danielle's Law, and other professionally based training deemed necessary by APluscare. Additional training in defensive driving and wheelchair securement may be required.
