Animal Control Officer Job Description

  • Addresses concerns related to leash regulations, aggressive animal behavior, and excessive noise. Engages with community members to mediate disputes and enforce relevant laws.
  • Investigates allegations of animal mistreatment, gathers necessary evidence, and takes appropriate measures. Conducts initial inquiries into serious animal-related incidents.
  • Surveys assigned regions to ensure a visible presence and address violations. Responds to calls for assistance in capturing distressed animals and performs humane euthanasia when necessary.
  • Manages administrative responsibilities including record-keeping, inventory management, and equipment oversight. Processes applications for licenses and permits.
  • Oversees cases of animal neglect and cruelty, ensures adherence to regulations, and provides support during critical situations.
  • Assists in incidents involving traffic accidents, emergencies, and park-related events. Participates in preparedness and evacuation planning.
  • Issues citations, prepares reports, collaborates with legal entities, and provides testimony in court proceedings. Engages with the public and supports community outreach initiatives.
  • Works alongside mental health services and other organizations to assist at-risk individuals. Provides crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old and successfully complete a background investigation upon hiring. Required certifications must be obtained within the first year of employment, along with ongoing training and re-certification.
  • Preferred candidates will have prior experience in animal control or law enforcement.
