Experience Credit: All relevant qualifying experience will be acknowledged. Current Federal employees must provide a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed to validate their work schedule and establish the amount of qualifying experience credited. An award SF-50 is not acceptable for this purpose. For non-federal applicants, resumes must clearly indicate either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked weekly to ensure accurate crediting of specialized experience. Inadequate information may lead to non-acknowledgment of experience.
Military Service: For military service periods, the DD-214 or Statement of Service will suffice to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement.
Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least 21 years old and not exceed 37 years of age at the time of application. These roles are subject to special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement officers, with a mandatory retirement age of 57. Exceptions apply for:
- Applicants with prior Federal service in a primary covered position sufficient to complete 20 years of service before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 57; or
- Qualified veterans' preference eligible applicants, where the minimum eligibility age is waived, and the corresponding retirement age may exceed 57 after completing 20 years of service.
Qualification Criteria: To qualify for this position at the SP-01 grade level, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating the ability to comprehend and apply complex regulations and procedures, exercising sound judgment based on directions, regulations, or laws. Examples of qualifying experiences include law enforcement roles, military police service, specialized military experience, security positions, visitor protection, and criminal investigations. Non-law enforcement related experience may also qualify if it demonstrates the ability to manage critical tasks independently.

Education: Successful completion of 60 credit hours or 2 years of higher education. Transcripts must be included.

Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above, with transcripts included.
Volunteer Experience: Paid and unpaid experiences, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, will be credited. Volunteer work enhances critical competencies and skills, providing valuable training that translates to paid employment.
Assessment Process: After determining minimum qualifications, selected candidates may proceed to additional assessments as outlined in the "How You Will be Evaluated" section.
Assessment Components:
Written Examination: Candidates must pass a written examination and Job Compatibility Analysis (JCA). The POST exam measures competency in arithmetic, reading comprehension, grammar, and incident report writing. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the hiring process.
Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB): Candidates must complete various physical tests, including a sit and reach, bench press, agility run, and a 1.5-mile run, with a passing score of 70% or better in each event.
Forms Screening Review and Background Investigation Preparation: Selected candidates will undergo an in-person interview with a background investigator and must provide all requested documents timely to avoid removal from the hiring process.
Qualification Review Panel: An in-person interview conducted by a panel of officials will evaluate candidates based on their responses to qualification and scenario questions, requiring a minimum score of 70% to proceed.
Medical Review: Candidates who pass the Qualification Review will undergo a medical evaluation by a designated Physician.
Final Selection: Candidates who successfully complete all assessments will be referred for consideration for the Police Officer position.
Drug Screening: Selected candidates will be required to undergo a urinalysis/drug screening prior to official hiring.
Note: All assessments may take place in various locations, and candidates are responsible for reporting to the test location on time and at their own expense. Accommodations must be requested in advance if needed.
