Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist in implementing management plans on Ecological Reserves and Wildlife Areas in San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain dirt roads, fences, and water supply systems
  • Post boundaries and control vegetation
  • Perform facilities and infrastructure maintenance
  • Assist in fish population monitoring and fish habitat management projects
  • Write reports and maintain accurate records on State computer systems
Requirements
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow verbal or written instructions and directions
  • Ability to concentrate and stay focused to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to work unusual hours and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays
  • Ability to do heavy manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, and wear a prescribed uniform
Working Conditions

This is a field-based position with a requirement to report to the San Luis Obispo Field Office periodically. Telework from home will be only as agreed upon by the supervisor. Field work will be in inclement weather and remote locations, and will require the ability to complete physical labor such as digging trenches, painting, light construction, building wire fences, and repairing troughs.

Special Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ecological principles and a passion for conservation. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
