This role involves executing a range of moderately complex preventive maintenance activities, repairs, and enhancements to County properties, facilities, and equipment. The work encompasses various skill sets, including carpentry, HVAC systems, painting, plastering, masonry, plumbing, electrical repairs, installations, and machinery servicing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts a variety of preventive maintenance tasks on equipment, building elements, and facilities.
  • Performs regular inspections of assigned properties, identifies maintenance needs, and executes necessary repairs.
  • Estimates required time and materials for tasks, maintains records of usage, and manages inventory of tools and supplies.
  • Executes repairs in electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry disciplines. Services heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Replaces damaged glass and installs or replaces lighting fixtures and switches.
  • Undertakes remodeling projects and may construct cabinets and shelving.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting and applies paint and sealants to buildings and equipment.
  • May assist in disassembling and moving furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or G.E.D. with three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, including preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment, buildings, and facilities;

OR,

A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above requirements.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Texas Driver's License. Must successfully pass a criminal background check for CJIS clearance.

Preferred:

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification or the ability to obtain it within one (1) year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Maintenance practices and procedures in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry.
  • Safety regulations and best practices.
  • Tools and equipment utilized in maintenance and repair.
  • Applicable laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Skills in:
  • Carpentry, painting, plastering, masonry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and machine servicing.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing maintenance issues.
  • Reading and interpreting schematics and blueprints.
  • Applying safety practices and procedures effectively.
  • Collaborating with others and communicating clearly.
Ability to:
  • Follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Apply maintenance techniques safely and operate tools proficiently.
  • Work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.
Work Environment:

Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 100 pounds and carry up to 75 pounds, along with visual acuity, speech, hearing, and manual dexterity. The role may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and hazardous materials. Work may be performed at heights using ladders and scaffolding.
