Overview

The Senior Vice President of Risk Strategy is tasked with the comprehensive management and execution of the organization’s commercial insurance framework (excluding employee benefits). This role is pivotal in identifying and assessing the organization’s vulnerabilities to potential losses or damages to physical assets, liabilities, and more. The Senior Vice President will compile, analyze, and prepare data to formulate and propose policies, processes, and procedures to the leadership team aimed at mitigating risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and manage insurance coverage, including making recommendations for coverage and retentions, negotiating policy placements, and ensuring the adequacy of existing policies.
  • Guarantee accurate data collection, replacement cost assessments, and documentation necessary for effective insurance procurement.
  • Advise the executive management team as the subject matter expert on insurance-related issues.
  • Oversee various insurance programs, including incident reviews, claims reporting, audits, and premium allocations.
  • Recommend actions on claims to executive management and operational leaders, supporting legal counsel in litigation as necessary.
  • Review contracts to ensure appropriate risk transfer and insurance stipulations.
  • Provide the development team with evaluations of insurance costs for proposed projects.
  • Engage in risk assessments for potential acquisitions and property management operations.
  • Offer support, education, and training to enhance risk awareness and compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Officer to enhance loss control measures.
Additional Duties:
  • Analyze and evaluate claims involving the organization and its personnel.
  • Identify new opportunities to reduce overall risk costs.
  • Design initiatives to assist other departments in achieving risk reduction goals.
  • Review and assess operational, leasing, and corporate activities to recommend strategies for effective risk management.
  • Supervise the preparation of resident communications and settlement agreements.
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Manage supervisory duties, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations of staff.
  • Maintain regular communication with team members to ensure task completion and reassess priorities as needed.
  • Provide ongoing training and career development opportunities for staff.
  • Conduct weekly team meetings to share essential operational updates.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in risk management, insurance, or property/casualty brokerage.
Certifications:
  • ARM or CRM certification is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management practices and insurance industry standards.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving proficiency.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
