Role Overview:

This position is designated for current students. The role involves working with a local organization focused on youth development.

Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church (MSPC) is on the lookout for passionate and committed Youth Leaders to enhance our Youth Ministry Program. The selected candidates will play a crucial role in establishing a secure and supportive atmosphere for young people, providing mentorship, and facilitating educational and recreational activities. The objective is to empower youth, encourage personal growth, and build positive community relationships. MSPC embraces inclusivity and is a service-oriented Christian congregation that affirms LGBTQIA+ values.

- Program Development: Assist the Youth Director in designing and executing engaging activities, workshops, and events that foster leadership, teamwork, and skill enhancement among youth.
- Safety Oversight: Ensure the safety and welfare of youth participants by adhering to program guidelines and child safety protocols.
- Role Modeling: Exhibit and promote responsible behavior, respect, and a commitment to community service. Provide support and encouragement in the personal, academic, and social growth of youth.
- Community Collaboration: Cultivate positive relationships with parents, the MSPC community, and other staff to create a supportive network for youth. Youth Leaders are encouraged to explore collaboration opportunities with other MSPC initiatives.
- Conflict Management: Aid youth in resolving disputes, addressing challenges, and developing conflict resolution skills. Be prepared to respond to crises or emergencies involving youth as needed.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

- A strong commitment to empowering and advocating for youth.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to engage with diverse youth populations.
- Successful completion of background and reference checks.
- Regular programming typically occurs on Sundays. Youth Leaders are expected to participate in Worship and Youth Group weekly unless otherwise approved. Planning and communication outside of Sundays will require approximately 4 hours monthly.
- Flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, is necessary to accommodate youth programs and leadership meetings.
