About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer Manager is responsible for leading the team that designs and develops automated packaging platforms and supporting systems to enhance efficiency and speed in delivering products to Amazon's customers.

This role requires technical leadership, ownership, and refinement of packaging platforms and automation systems, working closely with the Electrical and Controls teams to execute design and manufacturing of Amazon's in-house packaging machinery and automation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage and lead the Mechanical Engineering team to achieve project goals and objectives.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to design and execute packaging machinery and automation projects.
  3. Lead the mechanical design work-streams, including modeling, load/bearing calculations, and 3D/2D design.
  4. Ensure project documentation is complete and scalable for manufacturing.
  5. Support safety certification of projects/platforms.
  6. Participate in meetings to optimize for customer experience, supply chain, and sustainability.
About the Team

The Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team focuses on developing automated solutions and sustainable packaging across Amazon's operations, prioritizing customer experience and waste reduction.

Basic Qualifications
  1. Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  2. 5+ years of experience managing and leading an engineering team.
  3. BA in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  4. 8+ years of packaging machinery design experience.
  5. Proficiency in 3D design and simulation software, including Ansys, Creo, Catia, and Solidworks.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  2. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  3. Experience with project management of technical projects.
  4. PLM, GD&T, and manufacturing process knowledge.
  5. Understanding of packaging machinery safety standards.
  6. Operations experience in a manufacturing environment.
  7. Advanced simulation expertise.
