Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer in our Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging team at Amazon designs and develops automated packaging platforms and supporting systems to enable faster and more efficient delivery to our customers. This role requires technical ownership and refinement of the packaging platforms and automation systems, working closely with Electrical and Controls teams to execute the design and manufacturing of Amazon's in-house packaging machinery and automation.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to design and execute packaging machinery and automation projects
Execute the mechanical design workstreams encompassing the core module evolution, structural member design, safety/guarding, and incorporation of ancillary systems at the project/platform level
Deliver engineering workstreams including drive system modeling, load and bearing calculations, static and dynamic torque simulations and analysis, 3D and 2D model design, and mechanical BOM generation
Lead and execute the detailed design evolution of modules and subsystems for material specifications, geographic requirements, and continuous improvement goals aligned with MSP's platform and project level initiatives
About the Team
Our team aligns mechatronics and packaging into one organization, enabling Amazon to develop, deploy, and scale automated solutions across the Amazon Fulfillment Network. We work backwards from deep customer insights to deliver solutions that seamlessly integrate into brownfield and greenfield deployments with safety as a top priority. We take ownership for the entire packaging experience, eliminating waste and packaging wherever possible, and transitioning from single-use plastics to curbside recyclable paper-based materials.
Basic Qualifications
Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
BA in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
8+ years packaging machinery design experience
Proficiency in 3D design and simulation software including Ansys, Creo, Catia, Solidworks
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
Experience with project management of technical projects
Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
PLM, GD&T, and manufacturing process knowledge
Understanding of packaging machinery safety standards
Operations experience in a manufacturing environment
