SUMMARY


The Wet End Operator is accountable for overseeing all tasks related to the operation of the single-facer or doublebacker, while also supporting both wet-end and dry-end processes. This includes responsibilities such as setup, operation, cleanup, and proposing enhancements to improve operational efficiency.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the operation of single-facers or doublebackers to achieve optimal production levels and maintain high-quality standards. Verify that the correct roll stock is received and utilized by checking wet end line-ups.

Position rolls of paper in mill roll stands, ensuring the appropriate size and grade are used, and perform necessary splices and paper changes.

Trim only the essential amount of paper from rolls when preparing for splices.

Remove roll stock from machinery as needed, accurately marking the size, grade, diameter, and lineal footage on the roll, and inserting core plugs into each end of the butt rolls.

Continuously observe the board during production runs to ensure quality, making adjustments as required. Submit maintenance work orders to supervision for any repairs needed. Clean the starch pan, glue roll, and singlefacer area after changing flutes and at the conclusion of the production week. Remove all paper from cores of stub rolls. Assist in training personnel on the wet end operations of the Doublebacker and dry end processes. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safety protocols and maintaining a clean work environment. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED is required. Previous experience in the corrugated industry is preferred, with at least 6 months of experience on the dry end of the corrugator and 6 months as a Doublebacker Operator. Candidates must be eligible to bid for this position under the current labor/management agreement or possess relevant work experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Proficient in reading a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Capable of calculating figures and amounts such as percentages, measurements, volume, and rates. Able to apply concepts of high school mathematics.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to execute instructions provided in written, oral, or graphic formats. Capable of addressing problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

TECHNICAL SKILLS


The individual must possess a working knowledge of the following: Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.

Understanding of product layouts and production specifications, as well as product quality specifications and quality standards.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee frequently uses hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; and may stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the functions of this role.

While fulfilling the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.

The performance of the employee will be assessed based on the following criteria: Operating standards - the employee is expected to meet or exceed Operating Standards in areas such as quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction, and productivity.

These standards will be established annually and communicated to the employee.
