Summary

In light of the ongoing health crisis and varying state regulations, the start date for selected candidates may be postponed until it is deemed safe for employees to return to the workplace. The chosen individual may work remotely to the fullest extent permitted until official guidance allows for regular on-site attendance.

Responsibilities

The Air Traffic Operations Coordinator serves as a Staff Support Specialist (MSS-I) within En Route and Oceanic Centers as well as Terminal facilities.

This role encompasses tactical, strategic, and administrative support across various program domains, including training, quality control, quality assurance, traffic management, airspace and procedural planning, operational automation, military operations, special and security operations, and safety management systems.

The position demands an extensive understanding of the air traffic control sector and familiarity with the numerous components that constitute the National Airspace System. Specialists are expected to leverage this expertise for the analysis, evaluation, and formulation of innovative methods, studies, and procedures. The Staff Support Specialist must also be well-versed in agency-wide initiatives, facility objectives, and possess the ability to communicate effectively, tailoring messages to diverse audiences. While not mandatory, experience with hardware and software is advantageous. Occasional travel may be necessary.

For the assigned Facility/Duty Location:

  1. Oversee daily operations to maintain and enhance operational materials and resources within designated specialty areas.
  2. Facilitate communication within and between facilities, as well as across various business sectors.
  3. Propose new projects or studies, considering available resources and facility objectives.
  4. Utilize expertise to complete projects, studies, and facility reports.
  5. Assess and evaluate the efficiency of equipment, facilities, and operational procedures.
  6. Conduct investigations, evaluations, and briefings for facility personnel.
  7. Devise strategies to enhance customer service and the quality of support provided.
  8. Collaborate extensively across facilities, offering feedback and consulting with other Staff Support Specialists, regardless of location.
  9. May undertake responsibilities outside the facility in accordance with grade and experience.

Depending on the facility structure, the position reports to an assigned MSS-2, 3, or 4, who provides administrative guidance regarding facility assignments within broadly defined missions or functions. The incumbent is accountable for independently planning, designing, and executing work assignments. The results are technically authoritative and typically accepted without modification. Performance is assessed based on achieved results and effectiveness in designated program areas.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate specialized experience, defined as:

  1. Holding an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or higher position for at least 1 year (52 weeks); or
  2. Being facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52 weeks) at an ATS facility; or
  3. Holding an MSS position for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility.
