Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Air Quality Engineer to join our team at RTI International. As a Research Air Quality Engineer, you will provide technical support for government clients, including the U.S. EPA's Sectors, Policies, and Programs Division (SPPD), Climate Change Division (CCD), Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) Headquarters, and EPA Regional Offices.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental engineering, policy analysis, or a related field, with at least 8 years of experience working in the development of federal or state air quality regulations. You will be responsible for preparing air emissions inventories, analyzing data, evaluating pollution control options, estimating costs, writing technical reports, and providing technical support for air quality grant programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead projects supporting the development of federal air quality regulations and the implementation of the GHGRP.
  • Develop emissions inventories for criteria pollutants, HAP, and GHG.
  • Evaluate emissions and operational data from industrial sources to support development of NSPS standards, NESHAP standards, and work practice standards.
  • Assess performance and costs of air pollution control equipment and emissions monitoring methods.
  • Write technical memoranda and reports.

Qualifications

  • BS (or higher) in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or other technical discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience working in the development of federal or state air quality regulations.
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and technical writing capability.
  • Demonstrated computer spreadsheet and database skills (particularly Excel and Access).
