Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive individual to provide inspection services for new construction activities, including fire barriers, fire sprinklers, fire alarm systems, and more. You will also be responsible for inspecting new and existing facilities for compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes, including the International Fire Code (IFC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, and Department of Energy (DOE) codes/standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inspection services for new construction activities, including fire barriers, fire sprinklers, fire alarm systems, and more
  • Inspect new and existing facilities for compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes, including the IFC, NFPA, and DOE codes/standards
  • Assist with implementing the NREL Fire Barrier program, including firestopping inspections, review of firestopping submittals, and interfacing with installers
  • Assist with implementing the NREL hot work program, including review of hot work activities and policy, and inspecting hot work activities
  • Assist with implementing NREL fire protection system impairment program, including providing oversight and guidance on how to safely impair safety systems
  • Assist with the oversight of inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire and life safety systems (fire sprinkler, fire alarm, emergency lighting, etc.)
  • Record inspection findings in databases and in reports
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Interface in a professional manner with a wide range of staff, including scientific researchers, management, administrative, safety personnel, construction management, fire department personnel, and external stakeholders

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience
  • Extensive knowledge in specialized focused business support functions
  • A comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of business support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported
  • Advanced skills in applicable software packages and office equipment
  • Considerable project administration and business services skills
  • Broad knowledge of specific principles, procedures, and practices related to supported fields and disciplines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of or ability to obtain within nine months of employment, International Code Council Fire Inspector I or Colorado Fire Inspector I
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within eighteen months of employment, International Code Council Fire Inspector II or Colorado Fire Inspector II
  • ICC Fire Plans Examiner or Colorado Fire Inspector III
