Position Overview

Title: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) - Supplemental/PRN
Location: University of Maryland Medical System

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a dedicated Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to become a vital member of our multidisciplinary team within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Our Children's Hospital provides comprehensive services to patients requiring acute care. This includes a pediatric emergency department, pediatric cardiac ICU, pediatric ICU and progressive care unit, a specialized labor and delivery unit, and a 52-bed NICU spanning 37,000 square feet. Our clinicians deliver 'Top of the Class' Academic Medicine to critically ill neonatal patients across Maryland.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will engage in delivering intensive care to the most vulnerable newborns in the state. Our facility features a Level IV NICU, a specialized transport team, cutting-edge technology in our delivery rooms, and world-class high-risk obstetrics, neonatology, and subspecialty teams. Furthermore, we maintain a collaborative relationship with the University of Maryland School of Nursing. We invite you to contribute to our multidisciplinary team dedicated to caring for Maryland's most critically ill newborns.

The APP Team at the University of Maryland Medical System provides 24/7 coverage for NICU patients. The APP is accountable for daily patient management, leadership, and resource support for the provider team, serving as an educational resource for nursing staff, medical personnel, and families. Medical plans and decisions are developed in collaboration with attending physicians, utilizing evidence-based practices and current best practices while providing support and education for all team members. The APP and Neonatal fellow are expected to work collaboratively to support patients within the neonatology division. Additionally, the Neonatal APP's role has expanded to include coverage for the neonatal transport team through the Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP).

In addition to clinical duties, all APPs engage in professional practice activities at various levels. Schedule accommodations will be made and negotiated as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Master's or Doctorate program is required.
  • NCC (National Certification Corporation) certification is mandatory.
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit substantial clinical experience, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maryland licensure is essential.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of neonatal nursing experience is required for NNP candidates, with transport experience preferred.
