Position Overview

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, or a related field focused on Child Development
  • Teaching Certification from the Department of Education in Elementary Education, Nursery School, or Preschool through Third Grade (P-3)
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is also acceptable

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build a professional rapport with families to ensure quality care and a welcoming environment
  • Safeguard the well-being of each child by addressing their emotional, social, physical, and educational needs
  • Supervise children effectively while ensuring their safety at all times
  • Implement constructive discipline by guiding children and clarifying acceptable behaviors
  • Maintain composure in response to challenging behaviors, responding in an authoritative yet compassionate manner
  • Foster a clean, organized, and safe environment for all children
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate childcare practices and methods consistently
  • Engage children in play and activities that promote their development
  • Assist children with daily living activities such as restroom use, hand washing, and grooming
  • Attend to children who may be unwell or distressed
  • Adhere to all program policies and customer service standards
  • Document and observe child educational and developmental milestones, communicating findings to parents through our daycare app
  • Plan and execute daily activities that cater to the developmental needs of young children, accommodating various learning styles
  • Work in small groups or one-on-one with students to reinforce instructional content
  • Participate in occasional parent engagement events and other activities that may occur outside regular hours
  • Assist in preparing daily and weekly lesson plans in accordance with policy
  • Support daily operational tasks related to eating, sleeping, and bathroom usage
  • Project a professional image and embody the values of the organization
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to identify student challenges and propose solutions
  • Help prepare instructional materials and set up equipment for lessons, as well as clean up afterward
  • Provide additional support to students requiring special accommodations or those struggling with concepts

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Successful completion of various background checks, including those from the Department of Human Services and/or State Police
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Completion of a Tuberculosis test and physical, with physician documentation
  • Ability to care for a group of children independently in a classroom setting
  • Strong time management, writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated work ethic, punctuality, and minimal absenteeism
  • Understanding of the unique needs and behaviors of young children, with appropriate expectations of their capabilities
  • Physical ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry
  • Proficiency in an additional language or creative specialty is a plus
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed for the benefit of the children

Professional Growth: A desire to develop professionally within the educational environment is essential.

SUPERVISION:
Assistant Teachers report directly to the Lead Teacher and/or Program/Curriculum Coordinator for any inquiries or concerns regarding children or center policies. If these individuals are unavailable, the Director may be contacted.
