Position Overview

The HR Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the Human Resources department. The primary focus of this position is to enhance the overall experience of applicants and employees from the recruitment phase through their employment journey. Key responsibilities include collaborating with hiring teams to attract and select qualified candidates, facilitating a seamless onboarding process, and assisting with various HR functions across the organization.

  • Assist in the creation and revision of job descriptions.
  • Expand recruitment networks to attract a diverse pool of applicants.
  • Develop engaging job postings and screening questions.
  • Conduct preliminary applicant screenings as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in interview processes.
  • Create selection materials to assess candidate competencies.
  • Communicate job offers to selected candidates.
  • Order background checks and pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide timely updates to applicants not advancing in the process.
  • Utilize the HRIS system for effective recordkeeping and communication.
Facilitate a positive onboarding experience for new hires.
  • Schedule and conduct orientation sessions for new employees.
  • Assist managers in developing tailored onboarding processes.
  • Coordinate quarterly orientation sessions.
  • Support the mentorship program for new hires, including mentor-mentee matching and training.
Support various HR functions across the organization.
  • Assist supervisors with performance management and coaching.
  • Administer the Employee Recognition Policy, tracking eligibility and awards.
  • Address employment-related inquiries from staff and applicants.
  • Maintain employee records in compliance with retention policies.
  • Ensure adherence to employment laws and assist in policy reviews.
  • Conduct training sessions on HR-related topics as needed.
  • Assist with payroll, benefits, and leave administration as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of experience in human resources.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • SHRM certification
  • Experience with HRIS systems
All employees must meet bondability requirements as per MEFCU's insurance policy. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining favorable bondable status.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates for this position should demonstrate the following:

Knowledge of: state and federal employment laws; best practices in human resources; recruitment platforms; competency-based selection; and effective training methodologies.

Skills in: communication, negotiation, organization, attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is also required.

Ability to: meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and work both independently and collaboratively.

Physical and Environmental Criteria
This position is primarily sedentary, requiring minimal physical effort. Most tasks involve computer work, necessitating fine motor skills for continuous wrist and finger movement.

Sensory Requirements include: sight, hearing, and touch.

Environmental Conditions associated with this role are minimal.
