Job Title: Academic Senior Advisor - International Student Services

LaGuardia Community College is seeking a highly skilled Academic Senior Advisor to join our International Student Services team. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert academic advising to international students, helping them achieve their academic and professional goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized academic advising to international students, helping them navigate their academic programs and achieve timely degree completion.
  • Develop and implement academic plans to support international students' academic and professional goals.
  • Communicate program requirements and benchmarks effectively to international students, ensuring they understand the expectations and opportunities available to them.
  • Monitor international students' progress continuously, providing timely and accurate information on academic requirements, institutional policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement strategies to support international student success.
  • Participate in student recruitment, enrollment, and engagement activities for international students, including those with F and J visas.
  • Develop and conduct workshops to promote student success and persistence among international students.
  • Serve as a participating member of the college-wide academic advising council, contributing to the development of advising policies and procedures.
  • Train and manage a cohort of peer advisors and college assistants assigned to the department.
  • Provide guidance and tailored support to newly admitted international students throughout their on-boarding process and completion of required tasks.
  • Prepare and provide program leadership with reports on student progress and enrollment status.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Student Engagement and ISS Director.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective advising strategies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles and practices, with experience working with international students.
