This role is responsible for facilitating revenue cycle operations, including billing, collections, and payment processing. The Patient Service Representative will perform administrative and financial-clearance duties to ensure the procurement of clinical services by patients. This includes collecting patient demographic and financial information, scheduling services, and handling referrals from primary care doctors.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct pre-registration tasks for inpatients and outpatients, including collecting demographic, financial, and clinical information.
- Obtain consent for treatments and authorizations as necessary.
- Verify insurance coverage and ensure accurate plan codes are added to registration.
- Collect information for auto and worker's compensation registrations.
- Notify patients of financial liabilities and collect payments.
- Post collected payments and verify dollar amounts.
- Provide financial counselor contact information to patients qualifying for state-sponsored financial assistance.
- Obtain authorization, pre-certification, referral, and/or notification as necessary.
- Provide excellent customer service and deliver professional courtesy to patients.
- Interact with physicians, nursing units, and office staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintain hospital financial information confidentially.
- Meet area-specific benchmarks related to productivity and customer service.
- Frequent sitting, occasional standing or working, and lifting of 10-15 pounds.
- Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulations for computer keyboard operation.
- Ability to see computer screen and read reports.
- Ability to hear instructions from physicians and other clinical or nursing staff.
- High school diploma.
- One year of medical office, insurance, physician's office practice, or hospital registration experience.
- Bilingual.
