Job Overview

The Strong is thrilled to expand its educational team to enhance our Woodbury School, which is set to welcome numerous families with young children into our Reggio Emilia inspired preschool and early kindergarten programs. The Educational Support Assistant plays a crucial role in the classroom by aiding in student development, fostering engagement, and ensuring a secure learning atmosphere. This role involves documenting student progress and assisting with various school program activities, requiring a background in early childhood education and collaborative teamwork. This is a part-time role with a commitment of 29 hours or less per week during the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers to create a stimulating and nurturing environment for students, supporting activities that promote physical, emotional, and social growth.
  • Coordinate with educators to discuss assigned tasks and facilitate students' explorations.
  • Supervise and guide students in the proper use and care of classroom materials to prevent accidents and damage.
  • Provide individualized support to students or small groups, enabling full participation in classroom activities.
  • Implement teaching strategies that align with established museum protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information about students and their families.
  • Document student achievements using methods consistent with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, maintaining a portfolio to track progress and prepare displays of student work.
  • Ensure a clean and safe learning environment, including tasks such as sweeping, promoting hygiene practices, and supervising children. Keep first aid supplies readily available.
  • Serve as a substitute teacher when necessary and participate in preschool and early-kindergarten events.
  • Collaborate with preschool team members to plan and support family meetings and special events.
  • Restock classroom materials and supplies as needed.
  • Assist in various school program activities, including developing curriculum materials and student projects.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in early childhood education is preferred; candidates with related educational backgrounds or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience in early childhood classroom settings.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification for children, including EPI-Pen training, with ongoing maintenance of certification required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
