Job Summary

The Teaching Assistant is a vital member of our preschool team, providing support to the classroom teacher in ensuring a meaningful educational experience for our students. This role requires a high level of commitment to performing job duties and tasks at a high level of performance.

Responsibilities
  1. Impart agency philosophy of 'Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential' to children, families, program staff and community resources.
  2. Maintain confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  3. Function as the primary assistant to the classroom teacher, ensuring a meaningful educational experience.
  4. Function in the leadership role in the classroom during the teacher's absence.
  5. Implement each child's educational, therapeutic, and behavioral plans under the supervision of the teacher and team.
  6. Supervise children and ensure safety.
  7. Work with individual students or groups of students on instructional projects to achieve individualized goals for each child.
  8. Provide the teacher and team with information about students, which will assist in the development of appropriate learning experiences for students.
  9. Assist in the development of instructional/classroom materials.
  10. Assist the classroom teacher in related instructional work as required.
  11. Maintain classroom cleanliness and the orderly appearance of classroom equipment, supplies and displays of children's work.
  12. Attend all meetings as required and appropriate, as determined by the classroom teacher and Program Director.
  13. Assist children with behavioral/management needs.
  14. Participate in conferences, workshops, Department meetings and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  15. Adhere to agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
Requirements
  1. High school diploma.
  2. One year experience in an early childhood education setting.
  3. NYS certification as a Teaching Assistant.
  4. Knowledge of classroom management preferred.
  5. Must have demonstrated commitment to performing job duties and tasks at a high level of performance.
