Job Summary

The Registration Coordinator I position is a critical role in the revenue cycle of the medical center, responsible for gathering and processing demographic and financial data to ensure accurate exam and procedure reimbursement. This position requires strong communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work independently and make sound judgments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage patient intake for appropriate appointment scheduling, reviewing prior visit history, correct diagnosis, appointment, and date/time.
  • Obtain initial patient demographics, including referring/ordering physician and third-party/guarantor information.
  • Accurately collect and document patient demographic and financial information to establish a valid medical record and patient billing account.
  • Expedite third-party billing and collection in accordance with established hospital billing policies and standards.
  • Facilitate professional fee billing for outpatient clinic visits.
  • Complete and document the hospital's Condition of Admission and advise patients of related forms to ensure compliance with JCAHO regulations.
  • Inform patients of and collect insurance information, co-payments, deductibles, or deposits, following established cash handling procedures.
  • Manage work queues to resolve errors in a timely manner.
  • Ensure clinical record systems are maintained in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Direct patients and visitors, providing clear and concise directions, and escorting patients to service sites when necessary.
  • Prepare billing to ensure proper collection of required professional and/or technical billing in accordance with department service areas.
  • Cross-train to cover front desk, scheduling, and registration for specialty areas.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in a hospital or outpatient/large medical group practice admitting setting or equivalent business experience.
  • Experience and understanding of the hospital, outpatient, medical environment, and government agencies.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
  • Electronic medical records experience a plus.
  • 40 WPM typing/keyboard skills preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
Education/Licensure/Certification
  • Associates degree required; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Bachelor's degree in health science, healthcare administration, or related discipline preferred.
