Position Summary
The Vice President of Automation and Innovation will operate under the guidance of the Executive Vice President (EVP) and is tasked with assisting in the management of the organization's program planning, design, procurement, installation, and construction initiatives. This position will supervise Skyway Operations and the Test & Learn initiative, which serves as the Division's research and development function, preparing for the launch of Autonomous Vehicle (AV) operations. Additionally, the role is responsible for developing and implementing effective operational strategies and cost-efficient systems to address the current and future demands of the organization while ensuring fiscal responsibility and quality service delivery to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic management and policy support to the EVP and Executive Leadership Team.
- Oversee the completion of project planning, environmental assessments, project development, funding options, design, procurement, and construction phases.
- Identify project specifications, create scopes of work, and manage project development through ongoing communication with team members.
- Secure necessary planning, engineering, technical systems, integrator, and financial advisory services in compliance with applicable guidelines.
- Manage project documentation, correspondence, and budgets, providing regular updates on project status, schedules, and financial concerns.
- Ensure timely completion of planning studies and reviews.
- Establish and communicate the strategic direction for the organization's Commercial Fleet Operations, AV Testing Operations, and Fleet Management departments.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and other departments to achieve organizational goals while providing expertise on operational projects and systems.
- Identify and implement innovative processes, technologies, and systems to enhance organizational efficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive economic analyses for fleet optimization decisions.
- Align departmental decisions, staffing plans, project management, and expenses with the organization's strategic vision.
- Execute both long-term and short-term fleet strategies.
- Develop and enforce operations-related policies, practices, and safety measures.
- Review and approve cost-control reports and staffing requirements.
- Administer the department's budget and monthly forecasts in collaboration with the Finance team.
- Present performance reports and metrics to senior executives.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in operations management and the AV sector.
- Maintain a systematic documentation and reporting process for all projects to identify and address deviations from plans promptly.
- Work with various departments to identify long-term transportation needs aligned with the organization's strategic vision.
- Set strategic goals and milestones for the program, monitoring progress toward key objectives.
- Identify funding opportunities to support capital initiatives related to program development.
- Advise the Executive Leadership Team on necessary process adjustments in response to evolving conditions.
- Ensure the effective delivery of the organization's vision, mission, and sustainability goals.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and innovations.
- Attend public meetings and deliver presentations as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related management field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.
- Advanced degree.
- Previous senior management experience in transit/transportation, engineering, and construction programs, with knowledge of new transportation technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, including engagement, courage, effective communication, empathy, critical thinking, teamwork, strategic thinking, customer focus, innovation, accountability, and integrity.
- Familiarity with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to public funding and tax laws.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic-thinking abilities with a proven track record in implementing complex plans.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Technologically adept with the ability to leverage resources for organizational efficiency.
- Ability to understand the overall design of the transit network for effective development implementation.
- Experience in project management and budget oversight.
- Proven ability to finalize contracts in accordance with established procedures.
The Vice President of Automation and Innovation will work in an office setting, requiring substantial collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders. The role may involve extended hours, including nights and weekends, to address operational needs. Occasional travel may be necessary for meetings and training sessions. Physical demands include prolonged periods of sitting and the use of a computer.
