Field Materials Testing Specialist

Your Responsibilities:

As a Field Materials Testing Specialist, you will utilize a company vehicle to conduct field assessments and inspections of construction materials at various project locations. Our mission is to ensure that every project is executed correctly, and at S&ME, we take this responsibility seriously. You will have the chance to earn additional certifications to enhance your career, engage in more intricate testing, and mentor junior technicians. Become part of a team that contributes to successful construction outcomes.

  • Analyzing plans and specifications in preparation for site inspections
  • Recording field activities, observations, and testing outcomes on projects
  • Utilizing Metafield and/or other field and laboratory information management systems
  • Calibrating field and laboratory instruments to meet industry standards
  • Conducting Special Inspection observations in accordance with the International Building Code (IBC)
  • Maintaining daily communication with management, general contractors, and clients

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, reading, and writing) in English
  • Proficient in data entry across multiple software applications on mobile devices

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

You should be prepared to meet the physical demands of this role while using Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, including:

  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Navigating rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing for up to 8 hours a day, occasionally up to 12 hours
  • Regularly lifting and transporting 40-50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Safely maneuvering field equipment, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven surfaces and around active construction sites
  • Traveling for assignments as needed
  • Working outside of standard business hours when required
