Job Title: Supplemental Facilities Maintenance Worker
Overview:
The Charter Township of Shelby Parks, Recreation, & Maintenance Department is currently seeking applications for the role of Supplemental Facilities Maintenance Worker. This position involves approximately 30 hours of work per week, with an hourly compensation of $22.85, without benefits.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license to operate Township vehicles and equipment. The driver's license must be submitted with the application.
Experience:
Minimum of six months of relevant experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or facilities maintenance.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required. Candidates must also be able to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License within six months of hire if transitioning to a full-time position.
Supervision:
This position reports directly to the Department Head or a higher classification employee. There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this role.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of performing physical tasks, including walking, crawling, climbing, and reaching, as required to fulfill job duties.
Work Environment:
This role primarily involves outdoor work.
Job Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the PRM Supervisor, the employee will carry out general maintenance, repair, and labor tasks on various Township properties and equipment using a range of vehicles and tools. Responsibilities may include:
- Opening and closing Township parks and facilities daily.
- Conducting routine maintenance of parks (e.g., trash collection, tree trimming, mowing, landscaping, sprinkler repairs, and minor equipment repairs).
- Performing building maintenance tasks (e.g., trash removal, HVAC maintenance, painting, cleaning, and minor repairs).
- Executing snow removal operations for parking lots, sidewalks, and building entrances.
- Maintaining work orders and documentation for repairs and installations.
- Operating power tools and heavy equipment as needed.
- Assisting with the setup and cleanup of Township events and meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicants should possess the following:
- Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and repair.
- Understanding of safety procedures relevant to maintenance work.
- Ability to operate maintenance machinery and tools effectively.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Capability to work collaboratively with colleagues and the public.
- Physical ability to lift and carry weights of at least 50 pounds regularly.
