Job Overview:
The primary role of the Automotive Refinish Specialist is to deliver an outstanding customer experience through precise refinishing techniques, ensuring that each vehicle is restored to its pre-accident condition. This position requires collaboration with team members to meet the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the repair facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute the WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan consistently.
- Maintain a positive demeanor when engaging with customers and colleagues.
- Perform refinishing tasks in accordance with insurance standards and the quality benchmarks set by Gerber Collision & Glass.
- Assess body and preparation repairs for any issues that could affect the refinishing quality; report to the production supervisor as necessary.
- Ensure all necessary tasks outlined in the Repair Orders (RO) are completed to uphold Gerber's quality expectations.
- Carry out all refinishing processes following factory guidelines and Gerber's established procedures.
- Correct any paint imperfections through wet sanding and polishing techniques.
- Ensure that all formulations, preparations, top coatings, and curing processes adhere to OEM recommended practices.
- Manage paint material costs effectively in line with Gerber's KPIs.
- Conduct surface preparation, vehicle masking, priming, and top coating as needed.
- Apply primers, sealers, basecoats, color coats, and clear coats using the correct formulations as specified by paint manufacturers.
- Accurately mix paint to achieve a quality color match.
- Promptly inform the Repair Planner of any additional damages not listed on the RO.
- Assist management in the evaluation and adoption of new equipment.
- Keep track of assigned vehicles and assist in resolving any scheduling issues to ensure timely delivery.
- Consistently use all required safety gear and adhere to proper refinishing protocols in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Follow all guidelines for hazardous waste disposal.
- Maintain tools and equipment according to vendor specifications, including the upkeep of the paint booth and filters.
- Explain technical diagnoses and necessary repairs to non-technical individuals, including teammates and customers.
- Engage in continuous learning of new technical information and techniques through formal training sessions to stay current with evolving automotive technologies.
- Complete the Quality Control (QC) Checklist before transitioning vehicles to the next department.
- Keep the production area clean and organized throughout the workday, ensuring a thorough cleanup at the end of the day.
- Adhere to the daily production schedule as directed by the Production Supervisor.
- Notify the production supervisor of any collision repair issues that may have been overlooked and could affect production.
- Provide support to team members as needed.
- Participate in monthly Health & Safety and staff meetings when required.
- Attend training sessions and workshops recommended by management.
- Meet the KPIs set by Gerber (Sales/ GP/ NP/ CSI/ AR/ CT&TT).

- Comply with Gerber's Policies and Procedures in accordance with established business practices.
- Actively participate in daily production meetings with the management team as required.

Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a collision repair facility in a refinishing capacity.
- Membership in the Provincial College of Trades is preferred.
- PPG Certification is preferred.
- I-Car Registered (working towards Gold Class certification).
Required Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of manufacturers' repair/refinishing processes and adherence to Gerber's protocols.
- Ability to utilize selected vendor materials and general supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing learning through attendance at industry-related training.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to interpret work scope from vehicle estimates or work orders.
- Comprehensive understanding of vehicle repair practices.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating multitasking capabilities while working under pressure.
- Physical ability to bend, crouch, reach, handle tools, and lift approximately 51 lbs.
- Must provide personal tools.
