Job Overview:

The primary role of the Automotive Refinish Specialist is to deliver an outstanding customer experience through precise refinishing techniques, ensuring each vehicle is restored to its pre-accident condition. This position requires collaboration with team members to meet the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the repair facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan consistently.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor while interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Perform refinishing tasks in accordance with insurance guidelines and the quality standards set by Gerber Collision & Glass.
  • Inspect body and preparation repairs for any issues that could affect the quality of the refinishing process; communicate with the production supervisor as necessary.
  • Ensure all necessary items on the Repair Orders (RO) are completed to meet Gerber's quality expectations.
  • Carry out all refinishing procedures following factory specifications and company protocols.
  • Correct any paint imperfections through wet sanding and polishing techniques.
  • Ensure that all formulations, preparations, top coatings, and curing processes adhere to OEM recommended standards.
  • Manage paint material costs efficiently in line with company KPIs.
  • Conduct surface preparation, vehicle masking, priming, and top coating as required.
  • Apply primers, sealers, basecoats, color coats, and clear coats according to paint manufacturer specifications.
  • Accurately mix paint to achieve the desired color match.
  • Promptly inform the Repair Planner of any additional damages not listed on the RO.
  • Assist management in the evaluation and adoption of new equipment.
  • Keep track of assigned vehicles and assist in problem-solving to ensure timely delivery.
  • Consistently use required safety equipment and adhere to proper refinishing procedures in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Follow all guidelines for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, including the upkeep of the paint booth and filters.
  • Explain technical diagnoses and necessary repairs to non-technical individuals, including teammates and customers.
  • Engage in continuous learning of new technical information and techniques through formal training sessions.
  • Complete the Quality Control (QC) Checklist before transitioning vehicles to the next department.
  • Maintain a clean and organized production area throughout the workday, ensuring thorough cleanup at day's end.
  • Work according to the daily production schedule as directed by the Production Supervisor.
  • Notify the production supervisor of any overlooked collision repair issues that may affect production.
  • Provide support to team members as needed.
  • Participate in monthly Health & Safety and staff meetings as required.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops recommended by management.
  • Uphold the company's KPIs (Sales/ GP/ NP/ CSI/ AR/ CT&TT).

  • Actively participate in daily production meetings with the management team as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a collision repair facility in a refinishing capacity.
  • Membership in the Provincial College of Trades is preferred.
  • PPG Certification is preferred.
  • I-Car Registered (working towards Gold Class certification).

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of manufacturers' repair and refinishing processes and adherence to company protocols.
  • Ability to efficiently and cost-effectively utilize selected vendor materials and general supplies.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning through attendance at industry-related training.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret work scope from vehicle estimates or work orders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of vehicle repair practices.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating multitasking skills while working under pressure.
  • Frequently required to bend, crouch, reach, handle tools, and lift approximately 51 lbs.
  • Must provide personal tools.
