Role Summary:
As a vital member of the Emergency Department clinical team, the Emergency Medical Technician collaborates with a multidisciplinary group to deliver age-appropriate care in accordance with established practice standards within a hospital or urgent care environment. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse and Physician, the EMT will provide essential care to patients, ensuring adherence to clinical oversight protocols. Skills recognized by NC-OEMS will be applied in practice.

Key Responsibilities:
- Follow directives from nursing staff, physicians, and advanced practice providers to execute prescribed treatments within the defined scope of practice.
- Conduct prompt assessments of incoming patients and relay critical information to the care team regarding patient needs.
- Recognize clinical priorities and take initiative to enhance patient outcomes based on these assessments.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by maintaining patient confidentiality and exhibiting respectful, professional behavior.
- Serve as an advocate for patients.
- Communicate effectively to facilitate information sharing among team members.
- Utilize triage skills to assist in prioritizing patients in the Emergency Department.
- Collect basic patient data, prepare individuals for examinations, and convey findings to the primary or charge nurse.
- Assist with blood draws and IV initiation as per orders and in collaboration with nursing staff.
- Operate within the limits of the EMT license; narcotics administration and intubation are not permitted.
- Transport patients as necessary throughout the facility.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Additional Information

Education Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Completion of an OEMS approved training and competency program for Emergency Medical Technicians and current North Carolina EMT Certification required.
* Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Minimum of six months experience in a pre-hospital setting as an EMT required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Candidates must demonstrate the ability to effectively understand, communicate, and respond to the unique needs of patients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Clinical competence must be verified according to the position's Skills Checklist prior to independent practice.
