Role Summary

The Legal Research Specialist is tasked with delivering research solutions to attorneys and staff, both on-site and remotely, in a timely manner. This role involves collaboration with colleagues across the firm, utilizing both traditional and digital resources to fulfill these requests efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive legal and business research independently and collaboratively for attorneys, paralegals, and staff across all firm offices.
  • Analyze inquiries and suggest suitable tools for specific projects, considering client requirements, the nature of the research, and resource coverage.
  • Exhibit advanced proficiency with legal research systems and employ cost-effective strategies to perform complex legal research promptly.
  • Develop specialized knowledge by focusing on one or two specific areas of legal research practice.
  • Design and deliver high-quality research training sessions for attorneys and staff regularly.
  • Document and report research activities and time using InTapp and Quest to meet deadlines, provide meaningful ROI insights, and assist the firm in cost recovery.
  • Support the onboarding of new attorneys regarding library services, procedures, and policies.
  • Collaborate with Research Services Librarians, Specialists, and/or the Research Services Manager on special initiatives.
  • Manage any modifications to the physical library collection in the local offices served, including tasks such as relocating, weeding, or expanding resources.
  • Provide overflow support for other U.S. offices as needed, which may require flexibility in working hours.
  • Undertake miscellaneous duties and projects as required.

Qualifications

Education: M.L.S. or J.D. from an accredited institution; equivalent experience will be considered.

Experience: Familiarity with a corporate or law firm environment is preferred. Candidates with experience in IP, commercial litigation, business finance, or corporate securities research are particularly encouraged to apply.

Skills: Proficient in utilizing Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Lexis, Capital IQ, Securities Mosaic, ECF/Pacer, CCH VitalLaw, MonitorSuite, Accurint, and MS Office applications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to engage with individuals at all organizational levels. Flexibility and effective management of multiple priorities in a dynamic environment are crucial.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Equipment Utilized: Personal computer and standard office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc.

Work Environment: A minimum of two days per week in the office is required. Occasionally, there may be a need to work beyond the normal daily schedule. Specific weekly schedules will be discussed with your direct supervisor.

Compensation Overview: This represents the anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith's pay range for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

  • New York: $94,000 - $120,000
  • Princeton: $90,000 - $110,000
  • Wilmington: $80,000 - $100,000
