Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protective Investigator to join our team. As a Child Protective Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting investigations of abuse, neglect, and abandonment of children, and providing families with service linkages to agency and community resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations of child abuse and neglect cases, gathering information through observation and interviews with children, parents, relatives, and neighbors.
  • Assess danger threats, child vulnerabilities, and caregiver protective capacities to determine whether a child is safe.
  • Arrange emergency placement for children who cannot safely remain in their home.
  • Notify state attorney, law enforcement, and child protection teams as necessary.
  • Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing child present and impending danger assessments.
  • Report indications of abuse, neglect, and abandonment to the Florida Abuse Hotline.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of law enforcement experience or active military service (honorably discharged or status that current service reflects serving honorably).
  • An associate degree or 60+ credit hours from an accredited college or university and two years of professional work experience (see examples below) or two years of law enforcement experience or active military service (honorably discharged or status that current service reflects serving honorably).
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Florida Child Protective Investigator Certification from the Florida Certification Board within 12 months after obtaining provisional certification.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Ability to attend a mandatory training course.
Working Conditions

This position requires night, weekend, and holiday work, and has been designated as an essential position. Incumbents are expected to work during emergency situations or natural disasters and may be required to work before, during, and beyond normal work hours/days.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. They will also have a strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and the impact of trauma on children and families.
