Department: Facilities Engineering and Construction

Role Overview:

The Facilities Mechanical Systems Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc. plays a pivotal role in establishing specifications, standards, and collaborating within a team of diverse engineering disciplines to ensure quality assurance oversight of control system designs. Key responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

Safety & Quality:
  • Completes all mandatory safety training and performs all tasks in alignment with Micron and Technology Development (TD) safety protocols.
  • Halts work for safety if hazardous conditions or behaviors are detected.
  • Utilizes and assesses job hazard analysis (JHA/JSA) for tasks undertaken.
  • Adheres to all safety and environmental protocols to guarantee compliance with relevant regulations, including PPE, CoHE (lockout/tagout), and chemical safety.
  • Addresses safety and quality concerns promptly and collaborates with stakeholders for resolution.
  • Actively engages in the EHS program by reporting all EHS-related issues immediately (within 24 hours).
  • Conducts and facilitates audits and submits positive observations.
  • Consistently wears appropriate PPE as per JHA, supervisor, EHS professionals, and/or job designation.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to mitigate potential hazards affecting personnel health and/or the environment.
  • Employs proper lifting techniques and operates in an ergonomically sound manner.
  • Adheres to change management practices to ensure safety and quality standards are upheld.
  • Leads quality enhancement initiatives within their area of expertise to minimize Fab impacts, enhance efficiency, and drive cost savings.
  • Reviews designs as assigned to ensure compliance with manufacturer and company guidelines to meet safety and quality standards.
  • Owns the content of construction specifications, design standards, and design checklists to ensure quality, efficiency, and safe practices.
  • Ensures specifications, standards, and checklists align with corporate guidelines.
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts when required.
  • Facilitates lessons learned activities in their area of expertise.
Communication & Collaboration:
  • Ensures effective communication with facilities and manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to devise solutions for continuous improvement of critical metrics.
  • Partners with stakeholders to address equipment/process challenges.
  • Works with area leaders to establish personal performance and development objectives.
  • Proactively communicates with leaders and stakeholders regarding daily priorities and issues.
  • Participates in meetings and contributes relevant technical insights.
  • Collaborates with area leaders and stakeholders to gather input for area enhancements.
  • Communicates modifications made to equipment and adheres to business rules for change control.
  • Engages in data collection, gap analysis, and implementation of improvements.
  • Proactively communicates issues that could lead to Fab impacts, defects, tool restrictions, or lost moves.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders and leaders on issues and changes, providing regular status updates.
  • Expands cross-disciplinary knowledge through new assignments.
  • Listens to customer feedback, identifies opportunities, and provides insights for technical innovation.
  • Utilizes questioning techniques to better comprehend customer needs.
  • Interprets customer requirements to pinpoint potential opportunities.
  • Conveys complex information to internal and external contacts effectively.
  • Exchanges intricate information with colleagues and management.
  • Offers guidance and support to less experienced team members.
  • Provides feedback to internal and external management regarding work quality.
  • Collaborates with fellow engineers to enhance the quality of their work.
Project Management/Planning:
  • Employs a systematic project management approach to develop, prioritize, and oversee projects.
  • Manages projects to ensure deliverables are completed within the defined scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Monitors actions and provides escalation paths or resources to ensure timely completion.
  • Defines and leads complex, multi-disciplinary projects of significant importance to Micron.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders on project design and coordination.
  • Prepares project scope and ensures necessary input from relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensures that project scope aligns with requester needs.
  • Collaborates with consulting resources.
  • Coordinates and leads meetings, initiating follow-up actions.
  • Provides support for the design and specifications of new facilities infrastructure.
  • Assists in cost and schedule estimates and justifications for approval.
  • Reviews design packages.
  • Executes designs according to established processes.
  • Follows change management protocols.
  • Collaborates with relevant personnel to address issues or implement corrections.
  • Supports equipment startup and commissioning as required.
  • Contributes to shaping strategic decisions and provides technical support.
Technical/Data Analysis:
  • Analyzes systems data to make critical decisions, enhance performance, achieve efficiency, and drive cost savings.
  • Provides timely and effective guidance to resolve issues and is actively engaged in key problem resolution.
  • Offers troubleshooting support for complex issues and addresses root causes.
  • Conducts problem analysis using standard tools and methodologies.
  • Supports risk and/or failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Eliminates single points of failure and mitigates risks.
  • Provides consultation and technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Manufacturing, and other departments/sites.
  • Ensures facility compliance with federal, state, and local regulations through engineering support.
  • Identifies and develops strategies for equipment/processes that optimize PM frequencies and effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to identify gaps and opportunities for equipment/process efficiencies.
  • Works with Manufacturing on excursion root cause identification, elimination, and prevention.
  • Leads or supports corporate requests and assignments.
  • Leads or supports benchmarking activities on operational, procedural, engineering, and facilities systems.
  • Maintains relevant discipline knowledge.
  • Promotes a culture of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Applies standard engineering principles and practices.
  • Utilizes administrative and engineering databases as necessary for job tracking, engineering data, capital equipment facilitation, and critical system loads and capacities.
  • Conducts research and development on emerging technologies.
  • Incorporates safety controls in every aspect of the design, enhancement, and modification process.
  • Provides technical training and guidance to Micron and contracted engineers.
  • Creates technical planning and Basis of Design for large-scale projects.
  • Offers construction QA support for projects.
  • Provides global technical support as the Corporate Facilities point of contact for the Boise site.
  • Evaluates opportunities for cost reduction in tool installation and system design.
  • Leads supplier quality and qualification initiatives.
  • Addresses Facilities Engineering and Construction technical issues.
  • Facilitates technical support for Technology Transfer to other sites.
  • Conducts code analysis.

Education and Experience:
  • Required: Relevant degree in Engineering.
  • Preferred: Five or more years of relevant experience.
