Job Summary

VetJobs is seeking a skilled School Mental Health Specialist to provide critical support to military families and children in a school setting. As a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC), you will play a vital role in promoting the overall well-being of our nation's service members and their loved ones.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and compassionate individual to fill this critical position. As a School Mental Health Specialist, you will deliver non-medical counseling services to children and youth of military service members and their families at local schools and military installations. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing non-medical, short-term counseling services to eligible children and youth at assigned primary and secondary locations.
  • Conducting assessments, brief counseling, and consultation to support the mental health and well-being of our clients.
  • Developing action plans and referrals to resources as needed.
  • Participating in training and health and wellness presentations, health fairs, and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
  • Establishing and maintaining working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health-related field.
  • Valid, unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory, or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software, including Microsoft Suite, Internet navigation, smartphone/tablet application navigation, and video-conferencing platform navigation.
Salary

The estimated annual salary for this position is $83,000 to $120,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This figure is based on national averages for mental health professionals in similar positions.

In addition to the above requirements, you will need to:

  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
  • Hold a valid U.S. state vehicle operator's license and meet the Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
