Role Overview
The Clinical Associate position is integral to the pre-anesthesia preparation unit, which is dedicated to delivering high-quality presurgical care that prioritizes patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes. This unit operates in a dynamic environment, focusing on comprehensive patient assessments and preparations, including laboratory tests, diagnostic evaluations, IV insertions, and medication administration, alongside psychological support to alleviate surgical anxiety. Effective communication and teamwork are essential to ensure the delivery of safe and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) and assist with chart audits.
- Provide scheduling support for department/unit staff, including managing lunch breaks.
- Review medical records for pending orders and promptly inform nursing staff of urgent orders and medication adjustments.
- Manage inventory by ordering and organizing department/unit supplies and equipment.
- Ensure proper processing of equipment between patients, including cleaning and preparing necessary supplies.
- Handle incoming calls through the telephone and patient call systems, directing calls appropriately and taking accurate messages.
- Maintain cleanliness in waiting and break rooms and conduct safety/environmental rounds.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR) from the American Heart Association.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in automated computer systems.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Previous experience in clerical roles, medical terminology, and healthcare is preferred. Experience in direct patient care is desirable.
- If applicable, certification as a Nursing Assistant is required, along with successful completion of relevant courses through Carilion.
