Overview:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within CHRISTUS Health is tasked with delivering essential emergency medical assistance to individuals experiencing trauma or acute medical issues. This role requires proficiency in operating advanced life support vehicles to provide necessary care. Regular inspections of the emergency vehicle and associated equipment are essential to ensure optimal functionality and hygiene.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond promptly to critical emergencies, urgent medical situations, and routine calls.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals to formulate a care strategy based on patient evaluations.
  • Lead a team of emergency responders, coordinating efforts to perform triage, create treatment protocols, deliver medical assistance, and prepare patients for transfer to healthcare facilities.
  • Ensure all emergency medical apparatus and vehicles are functioning correctly through routine assessments; maintain sufficient medical supplies on emergency units through regular inventory checks.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness at station facilities.
  • Engage with firefighters, law enforcement, and other non-medical personnel during emergency operations.
  • Complete necessary administrative duties, including state and local documentation, and maintain thorough records of patient care.
  • Manage hazardous materials responsibly, ensuring proper disposal and adherence to OSHA regulations regarding Infection Control and Hazardous Materials Standards.
  • Respond effectively to mass casualty incidents and disasters, providing medical oversight, triage, care, and transport in collaboration with other emergency responders.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions as required for both certified and non-certified updates related to Emergency Medical Services and compliance with federal, state, and local EMT-P standards.
  • Utilize an ambulance and related medical response tools effectively in emergency situations.
  • Make informed decisions that align with the principles, policies, and values of CHRISTUS Health while adhering to all relevant compliance requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
