Position Summary:

The Emergency Care Technician is a vital member of the healthcare team, possessing expertise in various roles such as Emergency Department Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, ensuring high-quality patient care aligned with established protocols and standards. The technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, organized, and well-equipped environment for patient care.

Key Responsibilities:


• Upholds the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Facilitates the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.

• Observes and assesses patient conditions, promptly reporting any changes to the registered nurse.

• Safely transports stable patients to various departments as necessary.

• Ensures cleanliness and availability of medical equipment and supplies.

• Assists in inventory management and ordering of stock items.

• Maintains proficiency in specialized procedures, including venipuncture, splinting, and dressing changes.

• Prepares for Emergency Department procedures and provides support to the registered nurse as needed.

• Operates patient monitoring devices, records vital signs, and performs diagnostic tests under the supervision of the registered nurse.

• Conducts phlebotomy and collects laboratory specimens as directed.

• Adapts patient care approaches to meet the diverse needs of the patient population served.

• Performs clerical tasks, including order transcription and record maintenance, under the guidance of the registered nurse.

• As a Patient Registrar, warmly welcomes patients upon arrival, demonstrating exceptional customer service skills. Accurately documents necessary demographic and insurance information in the system.

• Embodies the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.

• Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Skills


• A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience


• 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care setting or military medic background, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience is required.

Certifications


• Current BLS certification is mandatory.


• EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate certification is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
