Overview:


The Emergency Care Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, embodying skills across various domains including Patient Registration, Unit Coordination, and Monitoring Technology.

This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, ensuring that patient care is delivered effectively and in accordance with established protocols. The technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients, contributing to the overall quality of care provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Facilitates the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient conditions to the nursing staff, based on training and experience.
  • Safely escorts stable patients to various departments as needed.
  • Responsible for cleaning, acquiring, and returning medical equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in managing inventory and ordering necessary stock items.
  • Maintains proficiency in performing specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, and dressing changes.
  • Prepares for Emergency Department procedures and provides assistance to the RN as required.
  • Operates patient monitoring devices and records necessary data under the guidance of the RN.
  • Conducts phlebotomy and collects laboratory samples as instructed.
  • Adapts patient care approaches to meet the diverse needs of the patient population.
  • Performs clerical duties on nursing units, including reception, order transcription, and record maintenance.
  • As a Patient Registrar, warmly welcomes patients, ensuring a professional and supportive atmosphere; accurately documents essential demographic and insurance information.
  • Upholds the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills

  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care setting or military medic background, or an active EMT license in lieu of experience.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
