Job Summary

Santa Fe County is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Law Enforcement Trainee. As a Deputy Cadet, you will play a critical role in supporting our law enforcement officers and gaining valuable experience in the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accompany experienced law enforcement officers on routine patrols and assist with investigations, traffic control, and other duties.
  • Participate in training sessions to develop skills in report preparation, police procedures, and other essential law enforcement functions.
  • Develop knowledge of County geography and learn to use specialized equipment, including firearms, communication devices, and computers.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; must be 21 years of age by the time of graduation from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Must have a record clear of felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must pass a written test, physical agility test, psychological exam, background investigation, and drug/alcohol screening.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both office and outdoor settings, with varied weather conditions. The work schedule includes shift, evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours. Travel is required, and the position may involve arduous physical exertion under vigorous and unusual conditions.
