Job Summary

First Solar is seeking a highly skilled Development Engineer II to join our team. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing chemical processes to enhance thin film solar cell performance and stability, as well as reducing manufacturing costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform material and device research to optimize solar cell efficiency, material selection, and process/equipment design.
  • Apply state-of-the-art techniques for material analysis, statistical analysis of data, and execution/planning of experiments.
  • Develop work plans to address problems with well-understood solution paths.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners and customers to communicate effectively and support cross-functional projects.
  • Train, mentor, and manage junior associates.
Requirements
  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or similar technical discipline.
  • Master's Degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline and 3 years of relevant technical experience, or 2 years of experience as a Development Engineer I at First Solar.
  • Comprehensive understanding of functional business units core area (chemistry, semiconductor material properties, characterization and analysis methods, thin film deposition), with expert knowledge in at least one chemistry field.
  • Skills and hands-on experience in execution of experiments in laboratory or manufacturing environment.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data and derive conclusions.
Working Conditions

This role requires occasional travel (10-15%) and the ability to wear personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron, and arm guards.
