POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, the role involves performing maintenance, repair, and/or replacement of mechanical and electrical systems within substantial public facilities or areas, including correctional institutions. The incumbent may also provide technical guidance to a team on specific assignments. Availability for rotating shifts, including weekends, is required.

The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in repairing electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and various building systems/equipment within commercial or multi-building campus environments.

Strong customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to comprehend, implement, and adhere to established policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be self-driven and demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills, as well as proficiency in computer-based maintenance record-keeping systems.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

- Inspecting, repairing, and/or replacing plumbing connections, seals, water and sewer lines, valves, and fixtures.

- Examining, replacing, and/or repairing electrical components such as switches, lights, circuit breakers, and transformers.

- Operating various electrical metering devices, power tools, and mechanical equipment.

- Overhauling and repairing low-pressure boilers, refrigeration systems, and ventilation systems.

- Maintaining records of equipment, services, and work hours using computer-based systems.

- Performing minor welding, painting, and carpentry tasks.

- Responding to emergency calls during day or night.

- Repairing and installing kitchen and laundry equipment.

- Inspecting elevators and related safety apparatus.

- Carrying out other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should possess a combination of training and experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems that has led to the acquisition of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible building maintenance experience, including the repair of minor electrical and mechanical systems, is preferred.


REQUIREMENTS

- A valid California driver’s license is required.

- Candidates must pass thorough background investigations prior to employment.

- Experience in maintenance and repair within large commercial, industrial, or campus-type settings is essential.

- Physical capability to perform tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting heavy objects is necessary.

- Willingness to work all shifts in various areas is required.


OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

This position may be subject to health orders regarding vaccination verification and/or testing, which are conditions of employment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with boilers, pumps, and chillers.

- High proficiency in repairing various building systems/equipment.

- Excellent customer service abilities.

- Self-motivated with a strong ability to collaborate with others.

- Proficient in using computer-based maintenance record-keeping systems.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of:

- Tools and materials used in general maintenance and repair.

- Methods for maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

- Basic mathematics and computer systems relevant to maintenance.

- Safety precautions and occupational hazards.


WORKING SKILLS TO:

- Effectively use and maintain power and hand tools.

- Diagnose failures in electrical, mechanical, or system operations.

- Work independently with minimal supervision.

- Interpret technical drawings and schematics.
