About the Department

The Urogynecology and Reconstructive Surgery Section is an integral part of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. Our dedicated Urogynecology team offers a comprehensive and tailored patient care experience across multiple clinical locations, ensuring that women with pelvic floor disorders receive exceptional Urogynecologic services close to their communities. This Section comprises six board-certified Urogynecologic Surgeons and four advanced practice providers who collaborate to deliver optimal care for women facing pelvic floor challenges. Our priorities include education, research, and the highest standards of clinical practice, with opportunities for patients to engage in pioneering clinical research trials.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to assist our Urogynecology physicians in various clinical settings. This role involves providing primary care for patients seeking non-surgical solutions for urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. The candidate will independently conduct office procedures such as pessary fittings, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, and urodynamics, as well as support the surgical team in the operating room. Additionally, this individual will collaborate with fellow advanced practice providers, residents, and nursing staff to educate and prepare patients for surgical interventions.

The position requires the application of best practices and clinical knowledge to make autonomous decisions regarding patient assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. Responsibilities encompass family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation, and research, providing care to both inpatient and outpatient populations.

Responsibilities

Execute duties as a Physician Assistant, proficient in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients under the supervision of designated physicians. The Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery team offers a comprehensive range of non-surgical and surgical care for women with urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and fecal incontinence. The supervising physician retains ultimate responsibility for patient care and the Physician Assistant's performance. Independently manage patient consultations in clinical facilities and collaborate with local and remote nursing and advanced practice providers to ensure a seamless patient experience. Perform and oversee office procedures, including pessary fittings, urodynamics, and percutaneous nerve stimulation. Educate and counsel patients regarding pelvic floor disorders and available treatment options (both non-surgical and surgical). Analyze diagnostic test results for abnormalities. Diagnose and determine management strategies for patient care. Prescribe necessary therapies or medications. Participate in weekly patient care conferences with surgeons, residents, and other advanced practice providers. Assist surgeons during surgical procedures. Provide education and counseling to patients about surgical expectations and postoperative care. Conduct patient visits during hospital rounds or home visits, updating medical records, ordering therapies, and communicating with supervising physicians. May order medical supplies and equipment as needed. Develop patient education programs that equip patients with the information necessary for informed healthcare decisions. Assess goals and outcomes, considering the benefits, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for patients, families, and the organization. Formulate diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions to achieve the objectives of the patient's care plan. Perform other related duties as required.
