Job Summary

CNA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Major Litigation Unit Claims Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Major Litigation Unit, you will be responsible for managing complex and high exposure claims, providing technical expertise, and collaborating with senior management to achieve optimal claim outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Claim Management: Manage an inventory of highly complex commercial claims with large exposures, following company protocols to verify policy coverage, conduct investigations, and develop resolution strategies.
  • Policy Interpretation: Investigate and analyze policy language to recommend and prepare coverage determinations.
  • Customer Service: Ensure exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim, interacting professionally and effectively with insureds, claimants, and business partners.
  • Reserve Management: Set and manage timely and adequate reserves considering coverage, liability, and damages.
  • Claim Closure: Move claims to closure with a high degree of independence and proactive claim handling, collaborating with internal and external business partners as needed.
  • Risk Management: Keep leadership informed of significant risks and losses by projecting exposure and completing loss summaries and similar reporting.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present claim status and evaluation to leadership.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Maintain subject matter expertise and ensure compliance with state/local regulatory requirements.
  • Mentorship: Mentor, guide, develop, and deliver training to less experienced Claim Professionals.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Typically a minimum six years of relevant experience, preferably in claim handling.
  • Licensure: Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire where applicable.
  • Negotiation Experience: Negotiation experience, including mediations.
  • Product Liability Experience: Product liability and/or high severity general liability claims experience strongly preferred.
