MDS Coordinator RN Job Description

Job Summary: Elderwood at Amherst is seeking a skilled MDS Coordinator RN to oversee the completion of Medicare PPS MDS and OBRA assessments for subacute and long-term care. The ideal candidate will have experience with MDS 3.0 scheduling, coding, and submission requirements, as well as knowledge of Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) and Case Mix Index (CMI).

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the completion of MDS/PPS components and establish schedules for assessment completion to maximize reimbursement and RUGs categories.
  • Act as a liaison to the business office coordinator and/or designee to determine eligibility for Medicare and track Medicare days.
  • Serve as the facility contact with Managed Care providers to ensure proper authorization and reimbursement for facility services.
  • Participate in preparing records for CMS and various entities for pre and post-pay record reviews, ADR requests, and appeals processes.
  • Manage NYS RUGs III case mix for Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Supervise MDS Coordinator(s) if designated.

Requirements:

  • Licensed Professional Nurse (RN) licensure with current license in state employed.
  • Prior experience with MDS 3.0 scheduling, coding, and submission requirements.
  • Experience with PointClickCare and Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) and Case Mix Index (CMI).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and dedicated.
